The Mississippi River Ship Channel (MRSC) is an important gateway supporting global trade for the United States while also serving domestic markets. Key to it being a vital gateway is the supporting infrastructure that allows deep-draft vessels and shallow-draft non-self-propelled inland barge equipment to access ports and terminals along the MRSC. The MRSC extends from Baton Rouge, Louisiana past New Orleans, Louisiana through the Southwest Pass into the Gulf of America. Connecting the world to the hinterland of the United States, the MRSC provides access to more miles of navigable waterways than the rest of the world combined.
